Oxford Symposium

2017

A one-day interdisciplinary symposium which seeks to explore the unfolding story of the female heroine, or nayika, in South Asian cultural history.

 

Convened by Oxford students and alumni, Nisha Somasundaram and Tanvi Bhatia, and supported by the Balliol Interdisciplinary Institute and the Bodleian Library, the symposium features lectures and performances which examine striking textual, visual and dramaturgical representations of the heroine.

Tiyasha presented a paper on Women in Indian Sculpture.

Samarpan 2017

Wolverhampton, Arena Theatre, 2017

Produced by Jaivant Patel Dance, Samarpan is a Classical Indian Dance Festival organised in Wolverhampton.

Tiyasha performed an Odissi solo.

 

2017 was the inaugural year. The festival is due to take place in 2018.  

 

Poorvika 2016

London,

2017

Poorvika was one of Nrtiyasha’s first initiatives.

At a very small scale and funded by the SOAS Indian Dance Society, for the first time in London,  the Classical Dances of the East of India was brought together in a single show.

 

Sattriya by India-based Anwesa Mahanta, Manipuri by Debanjali Biswas and Odissi by Tiyasha Dutta Paul.

The collaboration presented solos and trio in the Moksha, the final dance for release from the cyclical pattern of life and salvation.
